Sacred Dot Paintings
This series of paintings, investigates the nature of making as meditation in the style of the Aboriginal Australian dot painting. Taking a single image & portraying it only in dots is challenging & liberating.
All of the symbols hold a sacred meaning to the artist, as a reflection of various world religions, world cultures & what they hold dear. This series also includes the sacredness of the every day items we may take for granted; rain, a tea ritual , the sun, water, the uniqueness of a shell, feather or snowflake. Symbols hold meaning for many due to what they signify to that individual. Other times the symbol is unknown & so an abstract notion of dots & colour make something, hopefully, pleasing to the eye.
Belief is powerful and for some a symbol helps to ground us, in that belief.
