This introductory course will explore additive and subtractive sculpture in 4 main formats. Each term there will be 4 different projects covering clay, plaster, assemblage and paper art. Some projects will include figurative work like a clay bust, plaster cast mask, and built human figure, low relief plaques in clay, plaster, papier mâché, paper, wood carving, along with collage , carved, appliqued and sewn altered books. We will discuss and learn about substructures, armatures, adhesives, proper tool use and how to present work on walls or tables. Artists explored will be Henry Moore, Louise Nevelson, Betty Goodwin, Alberto Giacometti, Alexander Calder and Patterson Ewan. Most materials are included in this class.
